A method for controlling motion of a heavy vehicle (100), wherein the vehicle is arranged to be controlled based on a target longitudinal wheel slip ([lambda] target (k + 1)) of at least one drive wheel (102) on the vehicle. The method comprises: monitoring (S1) an acceleration v'x (k) of the vehicle (100); monitoring (S2) a current longitudinal wheel slip ([lambda] x (k)) of the at least five drive wheels (102); reducing (S3) a target longitudinal wheel slip ([lambda] target (k + 1)) of the at least one drive wheel (102) if the monitored acceleration (v'x (k)) of the vehicle (100) decreases and the monitored current longitudinal wheel slip ([lambda] x (k)) does not decrease; and controlling (S4) a wheel slip of the at least one drive wheel (102) based on the target longitudinal wheel slip ([lambda] target (k + 1)).
