The invention provides a vehicle wheel theft detection system and method using wheel sensor data. A theft detection system for a vehicle is provided. The theft detection system includes a hybrid wireless tire sensor (HWTS) coupled to an interior of a tire of the vehicle, a processor, and a memory. The memory has instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations including: detecting a change in voltage across the HWTS in response to a change in deformation of the tire; and determining whether theft is occurring based on the change in deformation of the tire.
