The invention provides a brake device for an elevator and an inspection method of the brake device for the elevator, which can easily grasp the wear state of a bush. A brake device for an elevator is provided with: a fixed member (41) having a fixed iron core (42) and an excitation coil (43) and having an insertion hole (47) formed therein, the insertion hole having a circular cross-section; a movable iron core (44) which has a cylindrical shape and is inserted into the insertion hole so as to be able to advance and retreat; and a bush (46) provided between an outer peripheral surface (44c) of the movable iron core and an inner wall surface (47a) of the insertion hole, the movable iron core having a first end surface (44a) located on the inner side of the insertion hole and a second end surface (44b) located on the opening end side of the insertion hole, and three or more grooves (51, 52, 53, 54) formed in the outer peripheral surface of the movable iron core and arranged in the circumferential direction of the movable iron core. Each of the three or more grooves extends along a central axis (44d) of the movable iron core to reach the second end surface.
