In embodiments, an automation controller periodically generates stop trajectories and controls actuators to follow these stop trajectories. As long as a new stop trajectory continues to be generated, the automation controller may follow a destination trajectory formed by a first portion of each stop trajectory. If a stop trajectory is not generated for a period of time (e.g., due to a failure in one or more computers that generate the stop trajectory), the automation controller may continue to follow the nearest stop trajectory and stop the mobile machine.
