The invention relates to the field of electric vehicle charging station planning and design, in particular to a to-be-planned area electric vehicle charging load calculation method, which comprises the following steps: acquiring POI data of a to-be-planned area, and constructing a trip chain type; constructing a probability density distribution function of the travel characteristic characterization quantities of different electric vehicle types; and in combination with the probability density distribution function of the travel characteristic characterization quantity, the POI data and the travel chain type, a Monte Carlo method is adopted to simulate the travel behavior and the charging behavior of the electric vehicle, and the charging load distribution condition of the to-be-planned area is obtained through repeated calculation. According to the method, functional region classification is carried out on the to-be-planned region according to the collected POI data and then serves as the starting point of the trip chain, the trip behavior can be described more accurately, meanwhile, the process is combined with the actual road network, the result is more accurate and detailed, the algorithm can improve the accuracy of the regional electric vehicle charging load calculation result, and the calculation efficiency is improved. Therefore, the method is more suitable for the distribution of actual geographic information in space.
