The walking robot comprises a main body; the control mechanism is configured to control the main body to execute the following operations: controlling the driving motor to enable the main body to walk along a boundary line of a predetermined operation area, sampling the boundary line to obtain data of a set of all boundary sampling points on the boundary line, and outputting the data of the set of all boundary sampling points on the boundary line; and according to a set of boundary sampling points obtained on the boundary line, determining a number threshold value or a number threshold value range of boundary feature points for the predetermined operation area, and comparing the number of the boundary sampling points of which the curvature is greater than the curvature threshold value in the set of the boundary sampling points with the number threshold value or the number threshold value range, a plurality of boundary sampling points with the number of the boundary sampling points meeting the number threshold value or the number threshold value range serve as boundary feature points, so that map information of the preset operation area is formed, and the map information comprises a coordinate list of the boundary feature points.
