Methods for shaping hardened heat treatable, age hardenable aluminum alloys, such as hardened 2XXX, 6XXX and 7XXX aluminum alloys or articles made from such alloys, including aluminum alloy sheets, are described. The method involves heating the article in the form of a sheet or blank prior to and/or concurrently with the forming step. In some examples, the alloy is heated to a specified temperature in the range of 125 DEG C to 425 DEG C at a specified heating rate in the range of about 3 DEG C/s to 200 DEG C/s, such as 3 DEG C/s to 90 DEG C/s or 90 DEG C/s to 150 DEG C/s. This combination of the temperature and the heating rate may form an advantageous combination of article properties.
