The method comprises the steps that a first distance is determined based on a range finder, the range finder is arranged at a top cross beam of a clamp, and the first distance represents the distance between the clamp and a steel coil; the actual steel coil diameter is determined based on the first distance and a second distance, and the second distance represents the distance between a clamp and the ground; and determining a clamp control strategy based on the actual steel coil diameter. The clamp control method is used for the clamp control process of the unmanned travelling crane in the steel coil warehouse.
