The invention relates to the field of hoisting machinery, and discloses a tower crane and an anti-overturning control method thereof.The tower crane comprises a self-discharging balance weight (31) installed on a balance arm (22), and the self-discharging balance weight forms a first cavity used for containing solid particles or liquid fluid (31a); the self-discharging balancing weight is arranged in the first cavity and connected with a conveying mechanism for inputting or discharging the solid particles or the liquid fluid, and under the condition that the hanging assembly (4) is unloaded suddenly, the self-discharging balancing weight is at least controlled to release the solid particles or the liquid fluid contained in the first cavity. According to the tower crane, under the condition of sudden unloading such as rope breakage, the self-unloading balance weight can release the weight matched with the load moment so as to restrain the lifting motion of the suspension arm caused by the violent change of the instantaneous load borne by the suspension arm, so that the bending moment impact on the tower body is reduced or avoided, and the risk of overturning accidents is effectively reduced; and the optimal anti-overturning state is always kept by adjusting the weight of the self-discharging balancing weight in the hoisting process.
