The invention discloses a safe steel ladle hoisting system and method for a crane, and belongs to the field of crane equipment control systems. The hoisting method comprises the following steps: acquiring XYZ three-dimensional space positions of a cart, a trolley and a winch height of a crane and XY two-dimensional plane positions of a ground buggy ladle, and comparing and confirming; a camera tracking technology is adopted in a plate hook hoisting steel ladle trunnion area, and the steel ladle hanging position is determined to be accurate through feature extraction and picture judgment and analysis. Data communication between the crane and the ground straddle carrier is established, on-vehicle and ground integrated centralized control is achieved, and safe and reliable steel ladle hoisting operation is effectively guaranteed.
