Electromechanical activation of a bi-directional emergency stop device for an elevator, comprising: a support plate (22) equipped with a retaining member; an intermediate member for transmitting displacements towards two articulated levers (5) having, at their free ends, grooved rollers (7) attached by means of roller cams (20), where each articulated lever (5) rotates relative to one end thereof and comprising a linearly movable carriage (3), the linearly movable carriage is connected to the moving end of the holding member, the movable carriage in turn being connected in an articulated manner to an articulated carriage (4) which is responsible for transmitting the displacement to the articulated rod (5) by means of a transmission connecting rod (6), the transmission connecting rod is connected with the hinged rod piece (5) at the midpoint of the hinged rod piece in a hinged mode; and a compensation spring (9) and an articulated lever return spring for the weight of the device.
