The invention relates to an intelligent portal crane operation method and system. The method comprises the following steps: establishing a three-dimensional coordinate system; destination coordinate data are determined, the destination coordinate data comprise cart target coordinates, trolley target coordinates and lifting appliance target coordinates, and real-time coordinate data comprising cart real-time coordinates, trolley real-time coordinates and lifting appliance real-time coordinates are obtained in real time; on the basis of the destination coordinate data and the real-time coordinate data, the moving strokes of the cart walking mechanism, the trolley walking mechanism and the lifting appliance moving to the destination coordinates are determined; and on the basis of the moving stroke, driving instructions are sent to the cart walking mechanism, the trolley walking mechanism and a lifting mechanism used for controlling the lifting appliance so that the lifting appliance can move to the destination coordinates. The gantry crane has the advantages that automatic operation of the gantry crane is achieved, and the operation efficiency of the gantry crane is improved.
