The invention relates to a steel wire rope climbing robot which comprises two transverse clamping parts, two pairs of clamping mechanisms with clamping wheels are arranged between the two clamping parts, and transverse positive and negative thread lead screws with opposite threads at the same position are rotationally installed on the two clamping parts correspondingly. The clamping mechanisms are fixedly connected with lead screw nuts on the two positive and negative tooth lead screws correspondingly, the clamping wheels face the path where the steel wire rope passes and define a clamping gap allowing the steel wire rope to pass, a longitudinal connecting rod is rotationally installed between the two clamping parts, and first bevel gears are arranged at the two ends of the connecting rod correspondingly. Second bevel gears meshed with the first bevel gears are arranged at the ends, facing the connecting rod, of the two positive and negative tooth lead screws respectively, one first bevel gear is connected with a power input shaft by being meshed with an input bevel gear, and driving devices connected with the corresponding clamping wheels are arranged on at least two clamping mechanisms. The operation is simple and fast, fixing is completed only by rotating the input shaft, the preparation work time is short, and the work efficiency is high.
