The invention discloses a power assisting system and a braking method, and belongs to the field of vehicle braking systems. The system comprises a brake triggering device and a brake system, the brake system comprises a pressure source and a power assisting device arranged between the brake triggering device and the pressure source, the power assisting device is used for driving the pressure source to convey oil to a wheel cylinder, the brake triggering device is electrically connected with the power assisting device, a failure compensation unit is connected between the brake triggering device and the brake system, and the failure compensation unit is used for providing hydraulic braking force for the braking system when the power assisting device fails. When the power assisting device fails, hydraulic braking force is provided for the braking system through the failure compensation unit, and the problem that when a braking trigger device directly drives a pressure source of the braking system for braking through mechanical backup, a driver needs to directly drive the pressure source with the foot for mechanical driving, needed physical strength is too large and the comfort degree is low during braking can be solved.
