A deceleration torque for the motor vehicle (1) is predetermined when the current position is in a deceleration region lying between a first end position and a predeterminable shift position, and wherein a deceleration torque for the motor vehicle (1) is predetermined when the current position is in an acceleration region lying between a second end position and the shift position, an acceleration torque for the motor vehicle (1) is determined in advance. According to the invention, the occurrence of at least one disturbance variable is monitored, said disturbance variable influencing the actual deceleration of the motor vehicle (1) caused by the deceleration torque, said deceleration torque being changed as a function of the detected disturbance variable.
