The invention discloses a driving assistance method based on a black-white-gray screen instrument, which adopts the black-white-gray screen instrument to carry out driving assistance display. The method comprises the following steps: performing front vehicle time distance assistance: displaying a front vehicle and a plurality of white vehicle distance lines which are positioned behind the front vehicle and are arranged at intervals on the black-white-gray screen instrument, prompting the corresponding front vehicle time distance according to the number of the vehicle distance lines and the flicker frequency of the corresponding vehicle distance lines; and performing lane assistance: displaying a left lane line and a right lane line on the black-white-gray screen instrument by gray or whiteto indicate that no lane is detected or a lane is detected respectively, and indicating corresponding lane departure early warning through flicker frequencies of the two white lane lines. The color difference of the black-white-gray screen and the flicker frequency are matched to replace the color requirement in the ADAS, so that the hardware cost is reduced; meanwhile, the design and developmentperiod is shortened, and more choices are provided for a main engine plant during development.
