The invention provides an automatic charging robot which can automatically insert a charging gun into a charging socket for charging, stops charging after charging is completed, pulls out the charginggun from the charging socket and sends the charging gun back to a charging pile, and is particularly suitable for charging an electric bus. The automatic charging robot comprises a mechanical arm used for driving a charging gun grabbing mechanism to move; a charging gun grabbing mechanism which is arranged on the mechanical arm and used for clamping or loosening the charging gun; a charging gun unlocking mechanism which is arranged on the mechanical arm or the charging gun grabbing mechanism, and after the charging gun grabbing mechanism clamps the charging gun, a locking/unlocking button onthe charging gun is pressed or loosened; and a controller which is electrically connected with a driving device for driving all joints of the mechanical arm to act so as to control the action of the mechanical arm, is electrically connected with the charging gun grabbing mechanism so as to control the charging gun grabbing mechanism to clamp or loosen the charging gun, and is electrically connected with the charging gun unlocking mechanism so as to control the charging gun unlocking mechanism to press or loosen a locking/unlocking button on the charging gun.
