The invention provides a brake pad abrasion reminding device and method. The device comprises a detecting module, a recording module, a processing module, a judging module and a warning module. The method includes the following steps that when a brake pedal is treaded, the detecting module measures the magnitude if external force acting on a brake pad and outputs the external force, a control switch is triggered to be in a closed state, and when the brake pedal resets, the control switch is in an open state; the recording module records the magnitude of the external force, the time interval from initial acting to disappearing and the initial speed and final speed of an automobile under forced speed decrease of the brake pad; the processing module calculates kinetic energy generated by the external force within the time interval according to the magnitude of the external force, the time interval, the initial speed and the final speed; the judging module accumulates kinetic energy generated by the external force within multiple time intervals to obtain the sum of the kinetic energy, and sends a warning signal when the sum approximates a set value; the warning signal is input into the warning module, and the warning module sends out warning information.
