The invention relates to an electronic type bi-directional elevator speed governor. The electronic type bi-directional elevator speed governor comprises a speed governor case, a rope sheave and a rope gripper. The rope sheave is connected into the speed governor case in a rotating mode and is connected to a ratchet wheel rotating synchronously with the rope sheave. A disc capable of rotating is arranged on one side of the ratchet wheel. A drive motor is installed on the face, away from the ratchet wheel, of the disc, and the drive end of the drive motor is connected with a gear. The gear is connected with a rack vertical to the surface of the disc. A push rod is connected to the end, close to the ratchet wheel, of the rack and can penetrate through the disc to be inserted into the gap of the ratchet wheel. The disc is further provided with an arc groove. A fixing pin is connected into the arc groove in an inserted mode and is fixedly connected to the speed governor case. The rope gripper is connected with the disc in a pinned mode and can rotate around the pinned point. The drive motor is electrically connected with a controller, and the controller is electrically connected with an elevator traction machine and an elevator velometer. The electronic type bi-directional elevator speed governor can limit speed in two directions and prevent an elevator from slipping at a low speed and is easy to reset.
