The invention relates to the field of mechanical equipment of cranes, in particular to a steel wire rope guiding device and an operating method. The steel wire rope guiding device is mainly composed of a base, side plates, a shaft end baffle, a through hole and a steel wire rope and further comprises horizontal carrier roller assemblies and vertical carrier roller assemblies. The through hole is formed in the base. The steel wire rope is arranged in the through hole in a penetrating manner. The side plates are further arranged on the base. The two horizontal carrier roller assemblies are horizontally arranged on the side plates. The steel wire rope is arranged between the horizontal carrier roller assemblies in a penetrating manner. The two vertical carrier roller assemblies are arranged above the horizontal carrier roller assemblies in the vertical direction of the side plates. By means of the steel wire rope guiding device, the steel wire rope can be accurately and stably guided in a transmission manner through the carrier roller assemblies arranged in the horizontal direction and the vertical direction; the problem that because a steel wire rope jumps and inclines during guiding in the prior art, collision to other structural members is caused, and consequently the steel wire rope is abraded and broken is solved; and production efficiency is improved and production cost is reduced while the service life of the steel wire rope is prolonged
