The invention discloses a driving gear fault-tolerant control method and device for a battery electric vehicle. The control method comprises the following steps: when a gear of the vehicle is reversed, judging whether the speed of the vehicle is higher than a preset value, if yes, reducing the speed of the vehicle to be the preset value and responding to a backward torque requirement; and if the speed of the vehicle is smaller than or equal to the preset value, directly responding to the backward torque requirement. The situation that the battery electric vehicle fiercely shakes during gear shifting can be avoided, and the safe running of the vehicle can be ensured.
