Provided is a parking brake operation state detection device capable of easily applying to an existing brake device a configuration whereby the operation state of a parking spring brake mechanism can be checked. A cover (60) houses therein a parking spring (34) and a parking piston (35). A position detection mechanism (61) detects the position of the parking piston (35) relative to the cover (60). An opening section (67) that partitions an opening (67a) having part of the parking piston (35) protruding therefrom is provided in the cover (60). A detection unit (68) having at least part thereof arranged inside the opening (67a) is provided in the position detection mechanism (61). The detection unit (68) is arranged in the opening section (67) so as to be capable of detecting the position of the parking piston (35) relative to the cover (60), by coming in contact, inside the opening (67a), with part of the parking piston (35).
