A ball bearing (14) for rotatably supporting a steering shaft, which is formed by connecting an input shaft (1) and a first output shaft (3) by a torsion bar (2), is fastened by a lock nut (18). The lock nut (18) has an inner diameter (Y1) greater than the maximum outer diameter (X6) of the sensor body of a torque sensor (TS) configured mainly from a permanent magnet (21), first and second yoke members (31, 32), and a magnetic sensor (60), which are disposed on the outer periphery of the steering shaft. As a result of this configuration, the torque sensor (TS) and the lock nut (18) radially overlap each other, reducing the size of a device, and because of the lock nut (18) being assembled so as to pass through the outer peripheral side of the torque sensor (TS), constituting parts are capable of being installed from one direction, improving the work efficiency of assembling the device.
