The invention relates to a B pillar for an automobile and a manufacturing method. The B pillar comprises a B pillar main body, wherein the top of the B pillar main body is an upper fixing part fixed with a roof of an automobile; the bottom of the B pillar main body is a lower fixing part fixed with a doorsill; the B pillar is characterized in that the upper part of the B pillar main body is a first thickness region, and the lower part of the B pillar main body is a second thickness region; the middle part of the B pillar main body is a third thickness region; a reinforcement pipe is arranged in the third thickness region; the first thickness region and the second thickness region are 1.2mm in thickness; the third thickness region is 1.7mm in thickness; the heights of the first thickness region and the second thickness region respectively accounts for 1/4-1/3 of the height of the B pillar main body; the reinforcement pipe is a hollow pipe and is made of ultrahigh-intensity steel by a thermal forming technology; the pipe wall of the reinforcement pipe is 1.5mm+/-30 percent in thickness. By the adoption of the thermally formed reinforcement pipe, the B pillar has the advantages that the thermally formed pipe is high in extensibility, so that a very complicated geometric shape can be produced according to the shape of the B pillar; furthermore, the pipe wall of the thermally formed reinforcement pipe is thinner, so that the weight-reducing effects, namely material weight reduction, intensity enhancement and the like are more obvious.
