An embodiment of the invention discloses a detecting unit. The detecting unit comprises light emitters disposed on two sides of a single rail, image acquirers corresponding to the light emitters, a server and image acquisition boxes. The beams emitted by the light emitters on different sides are different in wavelength and are coplanarly jointed into light sectional curves; a wheel tread is provided at a joint co-plane. Each of the image acquirers corresponding to the light emitters is used for acquiring image information containing the light sectional curves and the wheel thread. The server is used for receiving the image information and calculating the size of a wheel according to the image information. The image acquisition boxes integrally mounted correspond to the light emitters and the image acquirers. The beams cast from the different sides of the single rail are coplanarly jointed and have different wavelengths, mutual interference of the beams cast from the different sides is avoided, and the size of the wheel can be detected more accurately; the image acquisition boxes are integrally mounted in correspondence to the light emitters and the image acquirers, a mounting site needs only simple calibration, the requirement on operational precision is decreased, and detection precision is improved.
