The present invention provides a method for recording the total mileage of vehicles. The method comprises the following steps: calculating the mileage data by an anti-lock braking system, storing the data in two electric control units including the anti-lock braking system and an instrument, describing in details how the anti-lock braking system and the instrument store and synchronize the mileage data information and a fault handling mechanism, and simultaneously providing a flashing mechanism of the mileage data for after-sales repair. When the instrument is in fault, the anti-lock braking system can be used for calculating and counting the mileage data, the mileage data can be normally recorded and cannot be lost; the mileage data in the instrument can be prevented from being optionally flashed, and the authenticity and reliability of the mileage data can be ensured.
