A display device (12) comprises a light source unit (60) including a plurality of LEDs (58), and cover sections (38, 40) covering the light source unit (60). The cover section (38) includes a facing portion (74) and a side wall portion (85). The facing portion (74) has a linearizing portion (ST) for directing the light emitted from the light source unit (60) into a straight line, and the side wall portion (85) has a first scattering portion (SC1) for scattering the light emitted from the light source unit (60). A part of the light irradiated onto the straight advancing portion (ST) from the light source unit (60) is emitted outside from the cover section (38) without being scattered. Another part of the light irradiated onto the straight advancing portion (ST) is guided to the side wall part (85) while repeating reflections within the facing portion (74) to be scattered in the first scattering portion (SC1). A part of the light reflected on the inner surface of the cover section (38) of the light emitted from the light source unit (60), is irradiated onto the side wall part (85) to be scattered in the first scattering portion (SC1).
