A control method for a hybrid vehicle (1000). The vehicle comprises an engine (10), a driving motor (20), a power generator (30), and a power battery (40); the engine (10) is used for selectively outputting power to wheel ends; the driving motor (20) is used for outputting the power to the wheel ends; the power generator (30) is connected to the engine (10) so as to generate power under the driving of the engine (10); and the power battery (40) is used for supplying power to the driving motor (20). The control method comprises: obtaining the traveling parameters of the hybrid vehicle (1000); controlling the engine (10), the driving motor (20), and the power generator (30) according to the traveling parameters, so as to perform charging and discharging control on the power battery (40), so that the engine (10) works in an economic mode; and comparing the equivalent gasoline consumption of the hybrid vehicle (1000) at a series node, a parallel mode, and an EV mode so as to select a working mode with the lowest equivalent gasoline consumption as the current working mode of the hybrid vehicle (1000). Further disclosed is a vehicle control unit (2000).
