DURING preliminary investigations regarding the propellent system of the Blue Streak inter-continental ballistic missile, for which de Havilland Propellers Ltd. are the prime contractors, engineers from de Havilland's visited the Convair Division of the Dynamics Corporation in the United States to discuss problems associated with refuelling. A reciprocal technical information agreement exists between the two firms, and during assessments of the various components used by Convair de Havilland engineers showed much interest in a flowmeter known as the Pottermeter. This instrument, originally conceived and produced by the Potter Aeronautical Corporation in the United States, is an extremely accurate device for measuring the flow of a wide range of fluids both corrosive and non-corrosive over a temperature range varying from minus 455 deg. F. to plus 1,500 deg. F. It is thus particularly suitable for use in the metering of propellent flow rates in missile applications.
