Early `super' tanker was concieved as ship of about 30,000 dw tons; in about 15 yr, size concept has already been multiplied by factor of five and is still continuing to develop; while freight cost of early "super" tanker has risen, through general price escalation, by about 20%, freighting economies achieved by progressive size increases now provide ships which not only have negatived effect of price increase but are able to carry oil at substantially lower cost per ton.
