Brief resume of development of Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine and analysis of requirements of high-performance engine of future, developing at least 1500 bhp and operating on fuels of high knock ratings; problems investigated include those of engine forms, fuels, detonation, waste-heat disposal, cooling drag, cooling medium, and mechanical and operational features; conclusions deduced.
