To illustrate response of restrained occupant, simple model has been studied in analog computer using experimental car deceleration function as inputs; on basis of dynamic load-elongation tests of seat belts, linear load-deflection restraint system was chosen; two restraint systems of different stiffness were used, one with such stiffness that 0.2 m of displacement would give 160 g of occupant deceleration, and other corresponding to average Swedish belt where 0.2 m of displacement gives 80 g of occupant deceleration; results obtained and recommendations made.
