Casings on pipe line railroad and highway crossings may be defeating purpose for which they were intended; they could for example, form barrier to cathodic protection current resulting in pipe failure from corrosion; where casing shorts out, this condition is worsened; prospects of securing uncased crossings of railroads and highways appear to be considerably greater; results of tests are expected to raise permissible stress level for uncased pipe line crossings from 40-50 or even 60% of minimum yield strength of uncased carrier pipe.
