Results of measurements of relative dependence of spectral absorption coefficient of carbon particle clouds in exhausts of small rocket engines are reported; wavelength range is 1 to 4 μ and temperature range from 1000 to 2600 K; theoretical calculations of absorption coefficient were used to normalize measured emissivities to absolute absorption coefficients by matching theoretical and observed emission levels at molecular absorption spectral window; no attempt was made to measure directly carbon mass fraction.
