Series of flight tests with number of U S Navy test pilots and variable stability airplane was conducted to determine importance of lateral dynamic response parameters and turbulence response on precision carrier approaches; effects of roll time constant, dihedral effect, Dutch roll frequency and damping, and roll to aileron transfer function numerator characteristics were obtained; data are presented as iso-opinion maps for various parameters; aircraft turbulence response was found to be factor of commanding importance in determining handling characteristics of configuration.
