Discussion of ship design and cost aspects in relation to use of high tensile steels, particularly columbium treated steel OX 525; because of length/depth limitations, higher tensile steels are only used to best advantage at certain values of these; value of gain in deadweight will naturally depend upon, among other things, type of cargo and trade; examples are given for different ship types; some comparisons with prices for mild steel, etc, are included. Extracts from paper before Soc Naval Architects and Mar Engrs.
