Control of signaled intersections for minimizing total delay of vehicles; system installed for West London experiment can deal with conditions peculiar only to specific locality; systems can provide "privileged" routes for police and emergency services by ensuring that they receive green signals at every controlled intersection; `integrated' car parking schemes can be provided; system also provides up-to-date statistics on vehicle flow; two experimental wide-area control schemes in Britain are West London scheme under Ministry of Transport and Glasgow scheme under Road Research Laboratory which have become operational in 1967.
