Illustrated description of new form of joint developed by G. ELLSON, chief engineer of Southern Railway, which avoids disadvantages of ordinary type of fishplate joint; designed to prevent deflection of ends of abutting rails between adjoining supports which occurs under passing loads, and which gives rise to pounding always experienced in consequence.
