Michigan State Highway traffic engineers and Dearborn Public Safety officials reviewed possible methods for improving traffic operations on Michigan Ave which carries approximately 46,000 vehicles/day in both directions; it is divided arterial street with exception of 1.2-mi section in western portion of city; operational system selected for application was center reversible lane system; this report describes system and development of new combination electrical sign and signal for lane-usage control, and presents evaluation of system operation.
