Crankcase ventilation and exhaust emission devices, combined with increased short-trip stop and go driving, challenges performance properties of motor oils; tests were performed on formulations containing metallic dispersant-detergents and low alkaline anti rust agents, and on formulations containing nonmetallic dispersant-detergents, and high alkaline antirust agents; field tests were run with commercial gasoline, in taxicabs, tire track service, controlled commuter service, employee-owned cars, "Aunt Minnie" Service, and police fleets; interim field and laboratory test results show that motor oils can meet expected needs of 1968 engine provided oils are drained more frequently as engine mileage accumulates.
