14-mo test carried out by New York Central Railroad shows that organo-boron additive can cure serious fuel-filter plugging problem which plagued railroads since they switched to diesel equipment; role played by boron additive is that of killing microorganisms which cause filter plugging; other benefits are cleaner injector nozzles, reduced engine wear, less sludge and sediment, and improved storage stability; studies, conducted by New York Central Railroad and Standard Oil Co (Ohio), were first large scale field tests to determine effectiveness of additive.
