Based on his long experience, author points out possibilities of welded joints in securing all-round reduction in scantlings; in addition, considerable economy in labor is associated with adoption of arc welding; need for anglesmiths is eliminated; less yard machinery is required; punching, drilling, countersinking and other machines are not required; hence size of yard, author estimates, can be reduced to one-fifth of ordinary yard.
