Operational and maintenance characteristics of double delta SST Lockheed L-2000 are compared with contemporary subsonic vehicles; it is shown that large delta wing in combination with high-thrust engines provides exceptional safety margins for take-off and landing conditions; pilot's viewpoint on speed handling and controllability in emergency situations is given and operational flight planning is examined including climb and transonic acceleration, supersonic cruise and descent to subsonic speeds; existing runway lengths and strengths are shown to be satisfactory; arrangement of aircraft for maintenance purposes is described and inflight data processing, engine change techniques, overhaul schedules and ground support equipment are also described.
