Description of some of problem areas involved in engine structure of high speed ramjet, intended to propel aircraft at about 5000 mph; phenomenon from which severest practical problems stem is increase in ram temperature with flight speed; methods adopted for cooling engine structure, particularly combustion chamber and nozzle walls, will depend upon type of aircraft and its mission; component performance problems relating to intake, combustor, and exhaust nozzle are considered and research being conducted in these areas is indicated.
