Review of powerplant development, carried out jointly by Bristol Siddeley and SNECMA for Anglo-French SST Concorde program; principal difference between Olympus 320 and engine for Concorde was calculated to increase dry thrust rating from 20,000 to 29,300 lb while reducing internal operating stresses to level where component life would permit necessary time between overhaul for civil operation; major redesign of aircraft was carried through which demanded 12% greater thrust from engines; redesign of Olympus 593 was undertaken around new compressors and turbines; description of engine layout and component design; continuous development program is envisaged to extend thrust of engine to about 40,000 lb.
