Engine performance losses, when they occur because of deficiencies of carburetion and manifolding, can be largely corrected by means of gasoline injection; preliminary studies with gasoline injection indicate possibility that fuel system development can improve vehicle performance while reducing emission of certain noxious exhaust gas components; maldistribution of fuel, serious fuel precipitation, and maldistribution of air result in loss of combustion efficiency; when conditions are corrected, there will be decrease in minimum specific fuel consumption, depending upon amount of correction effected.
