Thirty-three sections (200 mi) of California freeways with widely divergent accident rates were analyzed to obtain information concerning freeway design characteristics as related to accident frequency; emphasis is on relative safety value of various design features; analysis of each section and explanation given as to why that section had good or bad accident history.
