Recent developments have made possible gluing of metals together with strength which brings this method of joining materials into competition with riveting at least in thin gages used in aircraft and automobile industries; simple relation between strength of lap joint and its geometry presented as "joint factor" which is defined as square root of thickness of sheet divided by length of overlap.
