Review of three generations of aircraft, namely, twin-engine transport for 14 to 28 passengers, symbolized by DC-3, four-engine aircraft characterized by Douglas' DC-4, DC-6, and DC-7 and Lockheed' s 049, 749, 1049, and 1649, and jet transport, introduction of which triggered need for marketing in air transportation; fourth generation, high-density, low-cost transport will require radical modification or new concepts to accommodate single-flight departures of up to 900 passengers implicating special reservation systems, ticketing systems, and terminals; market of future air transportation and its characteristics are explored and areas where research is needed are indicated.
