Disk brakes and modulating valves together improve stability during breaking; this, plus increased braking control are reasons that four disk brakes and modulating valves are employed in European cars; advantages of four disk brakes include better stability, and efficiency, constant stroke of control level, ease of split system application, good pedal feet, light fitting, and easy pad exchange; disadvantages are higher cost and less hand brake control; floating and fixed calipers are both used, but former are preferred; next step is use of antiskid devices.
